The outer boroughs of London, as well as many of the south-east’s commuter towns, look set to become home to a series of brand new business hubs to be developed in a joint venture between Property developer John Baker, formerly of Baker Lorenz and now of the John Baker Group, and building and civil engineering contractor Sir Robert McAlpine. The joint venture, operating under the name The Commercial Parks Group, will see the creation of around 2 million sq. ft. of new office space spread throughout a series of hubs located in Crawley, Haywards Heath, and Brawley.

Clearly keen to get their plans underway, The Commercial Parks Group has already acquired £20m worth of property in the aforementioned areas and received their first round of planning permission, this time pertaining to the development of 110,000 sq. ft. of grade-A office space in Crawley. The new Gatwick Park business hub, located just ten minutes’ travel from Gatwick Airport, marks the first step in an ambitious plan to regenerate ageing commercial buildings on Gatwick Road.

Additionally, the group today applied for planning permission for phase two of the Gatwick Park project, which would see a further 60,000 sq. ft. of office space added to the area. All-in-all, the Gatwick Park development will create around 500,000 sq. ft. of office space, according to the developer.

Plans for Haywards Heath and Bromley are still being drawn up by Urban Infill Architects, the same firm working alongside The Commercial Parks Group on the Gatwick Park development. As such few details have been released and planning permission is yet to be sought; all we really know for absolute certain is that the new business hubs in Haywards Heath and Bromley will be named Haywards Park and Bromley Park respectively, and will bring the total square-footage of the combined projects to around 2 million sq. ft.
