Near-perfectly timed to coincide with the firm’s 10-year anniversary, digital marketing agency Engage have set up shop in a brand new 6,500sq ft office space in the heart of Leeds’ new SOYO district in Quarry Hill, occupying a full floor of Munro House. Another day, another dull move, you may think, but what sets Engage’s new office apart is the heightened focus on staff recruitment and retention which is evident throughout.

Knowing that their workforce tends to be largely comprised of individuals under the age of 30, Engage set out to create a space which appeals to this demographic specifically. This was achieved over the course of a 12-week project which saw the new space being filled with not just workspace, meeting areas and all the standard features you would expect, but also a gym, bike workshop and drying room for cyclists, a theatre/auditorium, virtual reality suite and ‘secret snug’.

Alex Willcocks, co-owner of Engage, commented, “When we looked at where we wanted to take Engage, the culture, the clients and the working environment, we started with talking to the team, looking at how the industry is changing and also where the talent was.

“We moved to Leeds as we felt that the talent was here and then we set out to create the perfect culture and environment for our business to flourish.

“Our workforce is mainly under 30 and typically this is a transient demographic. Therefore we’re really proud that during a time of such significant growth and change, we have maintained a staff retention rate of over 95 per cent.”

The company has evidently been successful in their endeavour to create a space tailored specifically to the needs of their workforce, client base and industry, leading to the office being nominated for the MixologyNorth17 Awards for Small Commercial Interiors Project of the Year. The winner will be announced in December.

Mr Willcocks added, “When clients, potential clients or employees walk into the office they can instantly see what we are about and that we mean business. This is empowering and reassuring for the team.”
