Online electrical retailer AO World has somewhat outgrown its current Manchester office, located in City Tower within Piccadilly Plaza. As a result, they have just signed an 11-year lease on all six storeys of Baskerville House, a sleek, grade-A office building situated within Bruntwood’s Riverside office complex on the banks of the River Irwell.

Baskerville House, which contains a workable area of approximately 36,000sq ft, will serve as the base of operations for AO World’s 155-strong sales team, as well as the company’s internal multimedia team and a large proportion of their IT department, creating 100 additional jobs in the process.

Thanks to the building’s great location between the river and Salford Central rail station, transport links to and from the office are excellent, a fact which likely helped convince AO World to make the move. Baskerville House also sits in close proximity to a number of city centre amenities, further increasing the appeal.

AO’s head office will remain in place in Bolton along with its warehouse, with the company stating that staff at these locations will not be affected by the move in Manchester. The decision to upscale is rather well timed in the build up to Black Friday, which is a key retail event for AO World and tends to be among the busiest days of the year for the business.

Steve Caunce, chief executive of AO World, said of the relocation plans, “Moving our entire Manchester operation under one roof not only makes sense, but is a reflection of the business’s success and our continued growth ambition.

“Baskerville House is a perfect location for this next stage of our development and will meet the needs of our staff with great transport connections and excellent local amenities.

“Bruntwood has also really thought about how the environment at Riverside can benefit their customers and I have no doubt that AO and our people will thrive here.”

Andrew Butterworth, sales director at Bruntwood, also commented, “We have had a long-term relationship with AO World PLC since the company moved part of its business into Manchester city centre some eight years ago.

“We are very pleased that AO World has now chosen to locate all of its Manchester operation at Riverside, where we are sure the company will flourish and continue to build on its success and we look forward to supporting it with any future plans to expand.”
