Towards the end of last month we reported on entrepreneur Robert Fearnley’s efforts to provide the city of Harrogate with the high-end office space it has been sorely lacking by investing around £1.5 million into converting an old Methodist church into space-of-the-art premises for local businesses. Mr Fearnley at the time stated his hope that the provision of such spaces would dissuade businesses from relocating to nearby cities such as Leeds and York, as many have been known to do.

Well now it appears he may have an ally in this endeavour, as plans have recently been submitted for the proposed redevelopment of the former Harrogate Borough Council offices at Victoria Park House, situated on Victoria Avenue.

The firm responsible for the project are Hornbeam Park Developments Ltd, who acquired the premises back in January 2017 for a price of £1 million.

The plans submitted by Hornbeam Park Developments show how the 18,500 sq ft space will be converted into Grade A office facilities spread across 3 floors. The offices have been purposely arranged in such a way as to allow occupation by either a larger single client, or various subdivided offices for smaller enterprises.

The development will also include on-site parking split across 2 floors with space enough for 45 cars, 24 cycles, and 2 motorcycles.

Chris Bentley, Managing Director of Hornbeam Park Developments, said of the redevelopment project, “We are pleased that the Council have supported our vision for an exciting new Grade A office statement building on this site, which will create a new benchmark in facilities for town centre offices and mirror those that are already available on Hornbeam Park.

“We hope to attract the most adventurous, high growth companies to Harrogate with this project.”

As an added bonus, the project is expected to generate around 120 construction jobs in the process, providing a further boost to the local economy.
