Wates Construction recently announced the completion and
handover of some glossy new office premises located at One the Square in the
CB1 quarter of Cambridge. The highly anticipated space has now been passed
under the control of the developers, Brookgate.
Located in the CB1 Quarter, which is seeing much development
as part of ongoing efforts to update and improve the area around Cambridge
Railway Station, the new offices at One the Square will provide 129,295sq ft of
Grade A office space and 13,379sq ft of retail space. Various additional
commercial and leisure spaces will fill the remaining areas.
Designed by the architects at Perkins+Will, the new
development has done more for the area than simply providing a few extra
offices. Throughout the project, employment and training opportunities were
created for local people via their Building Futures Initiative. The initiative consists
of a two-week programme, providing valuable construction skills training to
nine local jobseekers.
Ian Vickers, managing director for Wates Construction Home
Counties, said of the development project, “The handover of a project to a
client is always a celebrated achievement, but we are particularly proud of
everything that we have delivered at One the Square and to have played such a
central role in the changing commercial landscape in Cambridge.
“Key to this project has been our close partnership working
with Brookgate and Abellio Greater Anglia to carefully manage what has been a
very constrained site.
“The result is an exceptional new office of the size and
specification that will really set the bar for new commercial developments
across the city.”
