Major transport company Uber is increasing in popularity, with the ease of ordering an Uber from a nearby driver at your fingertips. It’s easy, cost-effective (depending on your car preferences) for customers, as well as creating thousands of jobs for many who love the idea of earning money by driving their own car and meeting new faces.

The company announced last month that they are planning to move into a larger international HQ in Amsterdam to operate research, sales, marketing and the recently launched UberEats app. Dubbed ‘The Cloud’, the 22,000 square metre office building will accommodate around 600 new employees in the city over the next ten years - increasing up to 1,000 from the current 400 employee-count.

The new office, pictured in an artistic illustration above, will be located in the heart of the city, close to Amstel station, meaning it’ll be great for transport links. Uber will dominate almost half of The Cloud, renting 8,300 square metres.

Uber’s first international HQ in Amsterdam opened in 2012 with a significantly smaller employee force of just 50, and then later moved to larger offices in Vijzelstraat three years later in 2015 when employee numbers reached 400.

The international headquarters will be a hub taking revenue from other operating countries, like England, with Amsterdam having a lower corporate tax rate – a company strategy which has previously caused controversy.

Uber’s head of Europe, Middle-East and Africa Pieer-Dimitri Gore-Coty comments, “As a European tech hub, Amsterdam has great local and international tech talent, not to mention high living standards and good transport links,

“To match our ambitious plans to grow our international business, we're proud to be building our team in Amsterdam with around 600 new jobs over the next 10 years.”
